If rest and relaxation is not your idea of a fabulous holiday then read on. We’ve hunted down the very best adrenalin-filled, action-packed family activities and day trips in and around Pau.

Water Sports
If you are looking for something that is as entertaining as it is adventurous then local water-sports are just the thing. Only a few miles down the road from Clos Mirabel Manor you will find the Stade d’Eaux Vives host to world championship competitions in canoeing and kayaking and training centre for the french national team. You can get to grips with kayaking, rafting, canoeing and so much more. All ages (6+) and abilities welcome. The stadium also offers activities for those who do not wish to get their feet wet including tree climbing, orienteering, hiking, mountain biking.

Fun, fun, fun!
For a less hair-raising water adventure, especially if you have little ones, you can drive 28km to Aqua Bearn, a child friendly attraction with wave machine, pool with a current, river descent on tyres, toboggans, river rafting, pedalos and canoes. There is also lots of fun to be had at Lake Baudreixonly 35 minutes by car from Clos Mirabel including waterskiing, slides, play area and supervised beach.

Cycling
Pau is an excellent starting point for serious and casual cyclists alike. For the more serious cyclist wanting a taste of the Tour de France, the cols of Marie Blanque and Aubisque are within easy reach plus the Tourmalet, d’Aspin and Lus-Ardiden are also nearby. You can find more cycle routes here . For stunning family bike rides along the River Gave, bikes can be hired from the Stade d’Eaux Vives Pau-Pyrénées.

Tree Top Adventures
Relive your childhood climbing trees at Aventure Parc d’Aramits This ‘Go Ape’ style adventure park boasts 11 thrilling tree top adventure courses, zip lines, air bag bounce, catapult and even a bungee jump. Hot Air Balloon Rides

Mountain Toboggan Ride
Enjoy a Mountain Luge ride downhill in summer and winter alike. Thrill-seekers who want to discover the area can zoom 700m down the slopes of the Hautacam like a giant rollercoaster ride . Not to be missed….

Pic du Midi
If you are a thrill seeker, you cannot visit the area and NOT experience the view from the top of the Pic du Midi. It’s a 2 hour drive from Clos Mirabel, BUT it has been said that you can see a fifth of France from the summit on a clear day! A 20 minute cable car will take you to the top where you will be greeted by a truly unforgettable view. Don’t forget your camera!

Hiking
Clos Mirabel is within spitting distance of the Pyrénées which have some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. From lazy walks in the Jurançon hills to serious treks through the mountains, the Pyrénées has something for everyone.
