Painting Holidays at Clos Mirabel Manor, Ju­ran­çon – Pau

This inspiring and relaxing one-week painting holiday in South West France is held at Clos Mirabel Manor in 5 acres of parkland overlooking the Clos Mirabel Vineyard and the entire chain of the Pyrénées Atlantiques. It focuses on Landscape painting, with additional workshops in Portraiture and Still Life. The course consists of 20 hours of tuition, provided in small groups with a maximum of 12 participants and includes one to one sessions, excursions and lectures.

Fees – Residential Painting Holiday at Clos Mirabel Manor
The course fee is 995 Euros per week (7 nights) based on twin accommodation and 745 Euros for non-painting guests. Full Board is offered throughout the week except on day 6, which is a free day. Breakfasts and lunches are a buffet of regional produce. Dinner is a 4 course meal including aperitifs and wine. We cater to special dietary requirements. Guests have access to the grounds and outdoor swimming pool at Clos Mirabel, which is partly heated by solar panels. The price does not include air or train fares.

The Tutor
Xavier Micol: He studied Visual Arts and Art History at the Sorbonne followed by post-graduate training at the Waldorf Institute in Stuttgart. He has over 17 years teaching experience in India, Scandinavia, Switzerland and France. As well as teaching and pursuing his own artistic career, he has also worked in advertising and set design for Dior, H&M, Linvosges and France 2 Television.

Course Outline
The residential painting course at Clos Mirabel Manor is suitable for all levels and aims to help participants to expand their artistic skills. During the week we will focus on Landscapes concentrating on detail and the specific technical aspects of drawing and observation. The breathtaking panorama at Clos Mirabel offers incredible inspiration.

Tuition and exercises will include:
Composition: based on a geometrical approach to the landscape simplifying reality, in order to learn how to balance a picture. Participants will follow in the path of Cézanne.
Perspective: primary colours as well as the rendition of depth. A number of the great masters of the Renaissance such as Giotto, Mantegna and Leonardo de Vinci will be our guides.
Atmosphere: light, shade and colour harmonies will be the focus. The works of Rembrandt, Bonnard and Corot will inspire us.
Participants are offered an additional workshop on Portraiture or Still Life.

Xavier will also give two lectures on:
Realism and Abstractions: from Giotto to Mondrian.
Eastern and Western Worlds: looking at complimentary perceptions of reality.

Painting Classes at Clos Mirabel Manor, Ju­ran­çon – Pau
Classes will be held in the painting studio, the grounds of Clos Mirabel and on location in the villages of the Ossau Valley. The studio will be available through out the week including evenings.
As well as group work, Xavier will provide individual support to develop your own artistic expression in the medium of your choice.
Classes start at 10am and finish at 5pm Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed, Friday. Thursday is a free day to give you the opportunity to visit Ju­ran­çon, Pau and the surrounding area in the Pyrénées Atlantique.

Extra nights at Clos Mirabel Manor

Extra nights before or after the course can be added at a preferential rate, subject to availability in B&B or Self Catering Accommodation
